Aerospace Shutters

For over 40 years Brandstrom Instruments has designed and manufactured Self-Restoring, Momentary Rotary Solenoid actuated Advanced Optical Shutters, Aircraft Instrumentation, and Aircraft indicators.

Rotary drive shutters used to filter or attenuate various wavelengths in dual band and fused imaging applications.

Our Aerospace Shutters block apertures from 1mm to several inches in diameter. We can customize power, travel, mountings, blade dimensions, hall effect magnets and many other features to your exact specifications.

Our Heritage in Aviation Systems

From 1972 until the late 1990s, our core business was in power failure warning indicators for analog aircraft instrumentation. We have served, and in some cases continue to produce legacy products for the markets and programs listed at right.

Commercial

  • Boeing
  • Airbus

These rotary solenoid-actuated devices, which are designed to be MIL STD 810 G compliant and have successfully completed independent verification testing, reliably alert pilots to changes in circuit conditions as they occur during flight.

Specified for their compact size, low power consumption and high resultant force, these indicators provide autonomous advance warning of system malfunction and potential unsafe or hazardous conditions.

General Aviation

  • Cessna
  • Learjet
  • Gulfstream

New Uses for Warning Indicator Technology

Indicators have a variety of automatic hazard detection and warning uses in the commercial electronics, industrial automated production line and quality control equipment where accuracy is paramount.

Military

  • Black Hawk
  • B1-B
  • F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18
  • A-10

If you have a need for an indicator, consider the failsafe properties of electromechanical rotary solenoids and contact Brandstrom Instruments.
