Ground Vehicle Systems

Our thermal imaging shutters are battlefield qualified.

Brandstrom Instruments has already fielded  thousands of shutters for the Check 6 320 x 240 situational awareness thermal imaging camera in use on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and the DVE on the M1, Bradley, Stryker, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) and tactical wheeled vehicles. The robustness of our thermal imaging shutter has been demonstrated in the dynamic and harsh battlefield operating environments of these vehicles.

Our low risk, scaleable shutter designs address stringent operational requirements.

All of our shutters for ground vehicles are designed to meet or exceed the performance parameters of Ground Vehicle Systems:

  • Compact size, low weight and low power consumption
  • Image Fusion compatible
    (LWIR, SWIR and I2 technologies)
  • Survivability in vehicle vibration harmonics
  • Survivability in large & small caliber gun shock

Our solenoid-shutter assemblies are adaptable to any current space, weight and power requirement for thermal imaging systems on Ground Vehicles. The commonality feature between shutter models translates to proven performance, high reliability and streamlined logistics support across our customers' entire product line.

Future Ground Vehicle Programs

Brandstrom has ongoing engineering efforts to address the shutter requirements for future thermal imaging cameras equipped with Long Wave IR (LWIR) 17µ 640 x 480 uncooled sensor modules with a ±30˚ field of view. These new LWIR technologies are being considered for the Ground Combat Vehicle Program, Driver’s Vision Enhancer follow-on programs, 360˚ Situational Awareness Systems and Distributed Aperture Systems.

Our ground vehicle shutters address the sustainment of current forces, supporting programmed vehicle capability upgrades through the Army’s spiral development process as well as innovative new shutter solutions for emerging and future programs. Brandstrom Instruments can provide innovative solutions for your products, too. Please contact us to discuss your specific application.
